What’s in my ditty bag?

I don’t really know why I think this is interesting, but I always especially enjoy packing up my ditty bag before a camping trip. A ditty bag is a little bag where you keep all of your odds and ends…I’m pretty sure I’m not the only camper who calls it that. I think it was originally used by sailors. My ditty bag is part first aid kit, part repair kit, and part personal hygiene stuff.  It’s also got other essentials like a knife, lighter, and sunscreen. I plan on taking a wilderness first-aid workshop at some point to beef up the first aid part of this bag and also gain a little more knowledge on how to be safe in the woods.

I use the medium sized bag in the Sea to Summit Travelling Light ™ Stuff Sack Set. It actually has some pretty important stuff in it:

  • Antiseptic wipes
  • Sting relief wipes
  • Various sizes of band-aids and butterfly closures
  • Gauze
  • Extra batteries for my headlamp
  • Daily contacts
  • Ibuprofen
  • Benadryl
  • Safety pins
  • Chapstick
  • Extra hair ties (Very important if you have hair like mine. You never know when yours will break or accidentally get catapulted somewhere.)
  • Tooth brush
  • Tooth paste
  • Duct tape
  • Sunscreen
  • Compact mirror (mostly for putting in contacts…but maybe it will come in handy for something else)
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Twist tie
  • Lighter
  • Small knife
